PANEL DISCUSSION

WOMEN hosted a virtual panel discussion event this semester where professional engineers and EITs answered questions.

This is a great way to find out more about the transition from university to industry, and learn about the experiences of women in engineering. The featured panelists this year were Kim VanKosh, P.Eng, MBA, Lana Obach, P.Eng, PMP, Jessica Fichtner, and Courtney Mandock, EIT.

We hope to host panels annually so keep updated with us!

TECHNICAL TOURS

Every year, WOMEN aims to provide at least one technical tour for its members. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this event has not taken place since 2019 due to restrictions. During the 2018-2019 school year, WOMEN hosted a tour at North Forge, an innovation hub and fabrication lab that utilizes resources to advance Manitoba's innovative technologies. We hope to conduct more technical tours going forward.

WINE AND CHEESE NIGHT

WOMEN's first Wine and Cheese Night took place during the Spring of 2019! This was a very successful event that brought together over 40 students and professionals. The night included food, trivia games, and a presentation on Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba's (EGM) "30 By 30" project, presented by Lisa Stepnuk.

ART & SCIENCE NIGHT

WOMEN's Art & Science Night took place virtually during both the 2020-21 and 2021-22 academic sessions. Members participated in simple instructional art tasks and prizes were provided. This event is also a great opportunity for networking between students.

WELDING WORKSHOP

WOMEN conducted a welding workshop in 2020 where members worked together to learn the basics of welding. We believe that technical skills are another critical aspect in engineering, and that female identifying students should be supported in those skills.

MENTORSHIP PROGRAM

The Mentorship Program began in the 2020-21 academic session. We grouped together members of upper and lower years and provided new students with the opportunity to learn from peers.

PROFESSIONAL HEADSHOT EVENT

This free event is a great way for WOMEN to connect with all students within the Faculty of Engineering while providing them with the opportunity to receive a professional headshot. The event occurred while in-person classes took place and provided students with the opportunity for professional development. Our goal is to provide more headshot events when restrictions permit.

PAINT NIGHT

Paint nights are a great way to relax and hangout with other students during the hectic semester. Last winter, we hosted a paint night with our members and had a great turnout. We hope to do similar events this year!
